We had an open source Magento store and it needed major overhauls, as well as updates for security and more. We had a bad experience with a developer prior to finding Speroteck and we were very nervous that we would run into the same issues with responsiveness and sloppy code which cost us more money and time in the long run. We took a chance on hiring Speroteck to provide us with support in this area.

They proved their expertise by providing top quality code, thorough testing, and seamless updates from our previous website. Their communication along with managing timelines is a big strong point. They worked with our host and let us know step by step, hour by hour their progress. Everything went smoothly. Now we use them for various compliance updates, as well as design changes that we need. They not only take direction well, they also make suggestions based on experience that are vital in the flow of our site.

How Speroteck Responded

When hired by the client, Speroteck began paying close attention to every recommended security patch, suggesting what must be done immediately, what can be postponed and what has no effect on the site and, therefore, could be skipped. 

Per client’s requests we implemented various highly important extensions, such as:

• payment methods like Amazon, PayPal, Acima, etc.
• connection to Facebook
• reCAPTCHA
• product reviews
• abandoned cart email notification functionality
• price match module
• custom codes to provide a better experience to the customers

The client originally had two stores but decided to part from one of them. We made the process smooth by reconfiguring the Magento admin panel and taking off any files and folders unrelated to the Sound of Tri-State store from client’s ftp. That greatly reduced the load on the site and bandwidth used on client’s host.

By breaking complex topics into smaller parts to understand and optimize it, and by developing a realistic roadmap we showed how to get things done without breaking a bank with costly projects while bringing the business to the next level. Here are some examples:

• When the site became noticeably slow, the third party offered an immediate solution to upgrade PHP and MySQL to the newest version. While a good idea itself, it was meant to be a costly project. Our team researched the issue and suggested splitting: MySQL has a very old version, and the upgrade was critical for the issue. PHP’s upgrade could be postponed.
• When the client realizes that the checkout process is not PCI-DSS compliant, they wanted to switch to more secure methods, such as Stripe payment. While a good approach, we found a better solution for our client’s needs, such as Authorize.net.
• When the client first wanted to use a new theme on their site, they were excited to move to Magento 2 as well. We warned that the scope of this migration is very different from regular incremental version updates and must be budgeted accordingly. The point was taken, and they came back to the idea almost a year later with a successful upgrade.
• When the issue of not being Americans with Disabilities Act Compliant arise, our experienced developers brought the website to ADA compliance very quickly, as it was very important.

By focusing on what we can manage, control and influence one step at a time, we are not only getting things done, but we believe we are building the trust and a good lasting relationship that the client was looking for.
