In the fall of 2024, DOU.ua published the results of an interesting study on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools among Ukrainian IT professionals.
According to the survey, in 2024, 85% of Ukrainian IT professionals used AI in their work, which shows a significant increase compared to 57% in the previous year 2023. The intensity of use is also quite high: 41% use AI daily or several times a week, and another 32% – several times a month.
Young professionals use AI more often: 89% of specialists with up to a year of experience versus 79% of those who have been working for more than 10 years. Department heads are also more active in using AI: more than 90% of specialists at the Head, Architect, and Director of Engineering levels. However, among Senior specialists, this figure is 82%.

Non-technical professionals are more likely to use AI (91%) than technical professionals (84%). The most active users are marketers, designers, and UI/UX specialists (95%). Over 90% of HR, DevOps, and sales professionals also use AI. Less likely than others to use such tools are financiers (67%), artists and animators (70%), QA (76%), game designers, and sysadmins (78%).

Technical professionals most often use AI to find information, solutions and tips (83%). More than half of developers, DevOps engineers, Data Scientists and sysadmins use AI to write code and slightly less often – to find errors and debug.
Non-technical professionals mainly use AI to create texts and emails (84%), as well as to get information or tips (71%). Despite active use, only 1% of users fully trust the results of AI, another 27% – mostly trust. 59% are cautious, and 13% – do not trust at all.

Most Ukrainian IT professionals do not feel threatened by AI: 84% are not afraid of losing their jobs due to its development and believe that AI tools will allow them to work more efficiently. Only 6% of IT professionals fear competition from AI.
The popularity of using AI tools
ChatGPT remains the leader in popularity among AI tools: 79% of IT professionals work with it (last year — 51%). It is actively used by IT professionals of all specializations.
GitHub Copilot remains in second place in popularity (today it is used by 20%, last year — 8%). It is used by about a third of developers, about a quarter of DevOps and Data Scientists / Data Engineers, as well as top-level technical specialists (CTO, Director of Engineering, Program Director).
Google Gemini took third place this year, replacing Midjourney. Gemini is now used by 13% of IT professionals. Its predecessor — Bard — was used by 1% of specialists last year. The use of AI tools for generating and editing images has hardly changed over the year: Midjourney is used by 4% of IT professionals (last year — 3%), DALL-E — 3% (1%), Stable Diffusion — 1% (the same as last year).

In general, the study shows that Ukrainian IT professionals are actively integrating AI into their work, believe that AI tools allow them to work much more efficiently, and do not see a threat or competition from AI. In 2024, the share of AI use in the work of IT professionals increased significantly and will continue to grow throughout 2025.
