The Chest of Courage.
Date
“Joy after each procedure is not a dream, but a reality. Injections, punctures and other painful manipulations, without which, unfortunately, the treatment of children with cancer is impossible, now pass almost completely without tears. What is our secret? Thanks to “bribing”! Yes, we bribe children and are proud of it 🙂
Our ally has become the “Chest of courage” – a seemingly ordinary box, but filled to the very top with various interesting toys, coloring books, fairy tales, bright pencils and markers. Little patients rush to procedures, dreaming of getting a new toy. Nurses say that in a week or two the chest has got completely empty thanks to “little marauders”. But the most important thing is that this simple secret significantly reduces the stress level of children and their parents. The box is filled thanks to caring volunteers. The main condition is that the toys must be safe and age-appropriate for children.
Medical staff also feel the changes – it has become easier to convince children to undergo procedures. There is no longer a need to spend a lot of time persuading and explaining. Little patients even arrange real ambushes in the corridors, trying to find out when the next procedure will be and what new things have appeared in the chest. Contemplating this is a real pleasure.
The children are smiling, they are motivated and full of excitement and positive emotions. And this is extremely important for their recovery. A good mood has a positive effect on the immune system, helping them to endure difficult procedures and chemotherapy more easily. The happiness they are fulfilled with is another additional procedure on the way to recovery.
Among these children there are those who have lost their home, their fathers, or even forgotten what their apartments look like. But this is not the end, but rather, only the beginning of their journey.
We do not just give away medicines, toys, or medical supplies, we give away the most important thing – HOPE. Hope that everything will be fine, that they will cope with this challenge! Because it is important to know: in difficult times, there will always be someone who will be there and support them.
We are so grateful to each of you for your constant support of the collection for medicines and everything necessary for children, to the company’s management itself, for your constant involvement in helping the department with various requests – we recently received 28,400 UAH from the company to purchase hard drives for storing children’s MRI results to track the dynamics of the disease. And of course, it is a great way to fill our wonderful “Chest of Courage” and add bright moments to the lives of our little heroes!”
